The Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Toronto has reached a significant milestone with the completion of all 18 stations and stops along the line. The Ontario government made the announcement at the Humber College Station on September 20th.

Stretching across 10.3 kilometers of rail, the Finch West LRT line will travel along Finch Avenue West from Keele Street to Highway 27, then turn south to the Humber College north campus. This new transit service is expected to alleviate vehicle traffic on Finch Avenue West and make public transit accessible to 230,000 individuals within walking distance. It will also improve transit service for residents in Rexdale, Jane and Finch, Humber River/Black Creek, and other areas in the northwest part of the city.

The two underground stations at Humber College Station and Finch West Station will serve as entry and exit points for the light rail vehicles, integrating seamlessly with the TTC’s Line 1 as an interchange. Major construction for the LRT project has been completed, and testing of the vehicles and systems is underway to ensure the line’s safety and reliability.

According to Metrolinx President and CEO Phil Verster, the Finch West LRT project is making substantial progress towards providing fast and frequent light rail service to northwest Toronto. The line is projected to serve 46,000 passengers daily and offer essential transit connections. Testing and commissioning activities are ongoing to prepare for the line’s opening, including the initiation of TTC operator training.

Overall, the completion of all stations and stops on the Finch West LRT line marks a significant step forward in enhancing public transit options and connectivity in Toronto’s northwest communities.
