In this role you will have the opportunity to create turn-key mechanical solutions with the focus of supporting our clients and consulting partners with their initiatives and retaining projects before they become a public opportunity. As the Estimator, you will work closely with our consulting partners on various formats (ie. Design-Build, IPD, Design-Assist, etc.), as well as support the Estimating team on bid-spec pursuits.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for planning and estimating Design-Build/Assist and direct to owner projects as part of an estimating team.
- Assist in prospecting new clients to help diversify our offering to the region with the opportunity to work in various vertical markets.
- Attend client meetings in order to plan and develop a strategy on each pursuit to ensure our approach is aligned with the clients expectations.
- Perform quantity takeoffs including entry into the estimating system (Trimble)
- Reviewing all tender and/or design documents to ensure all bid requirements are met.
- Assemble all elements of an estimate including a lead sheet to summarize all components of a direct-to-owner bid (ie. Material take-off, equipment packages, labour, etc.)
- Interpret design information and have the ability to draw-in our various services in order to develop a turn-key solution.
- Provide detailed labor breakdowns for each area to assist with budget creation and management of project.
- Calculate a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit.
- Present bid package with tender price for clients following their specifications.
- Presentation of estimates/proposals to the Chief Estimator.
- Provides input for determining bid strategies and preparing bids.
- Work diligently to support the group sales targets for the year with individual targets specific to the Design-Build/Assist market.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- 3+ years of Construction Estimator experience; organizing and preparing cost estimates and proposals for Plumbing/Piping construction projects.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical, electrical, or construction technology.
- Experience in reading and interpreting construction design drawings, documentation, and specification.
- Knowledge of construction/piping costs and budgets.
- A working knowledge of plumbing codes and mechanical piping.
- Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
- Knowledge of estimating systems/software (Trimble).
- Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, analyze and understand construction drawings, associated documentation, contracts, cost coding systems and work breakdown structures.
- Hands on experience preparing all classes of estimates from conceptual to definitive as well as preparing financial and statistical analyses
