The GO Expansion Program will transform rail services in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), providing two-way all-day GO train service and improved passenger experience with quieter and faster electric locomotives. The GO Expansion program includes Early Works, Off-corridor station, and infrastructure upgrades, as well as an On-Corridor program to deliver new tracks, platforms, facilities, grade separations and electrification.The MCS team has been appointed as Program Delivery Partner (PDP) to Metrolinx to help deliver the GO Expansion program and transform Metrolinx capability to deliver large programs in the future.The Construction Manager (CM) will work closely with Metrolinx PDT’s (Project Delivery Teams), Principal Contractors, Project Managers and Corridor Leads on the GO Expansion Program.The Construction Manager will use their experience to drive a culture of best practice construction management on GO Expansion. This includes excellent in HSW, work-planning, quality and site supervision.They will be required to proactively engage with the Project Delivery Teams (PDTs) to understand the work scope a provide comments to work plans, and work with the teams to develop a best-for-program construction approach. Other tasks will include:
- Acting as a safety leader across a program of delivery works.
- Identifying and mitigating construction resource, interface and other constraints.
- Recommending changes to project delivery plans, identify areas of improvement to put forward to relevant area in business and operating processes.
- Walking the sites and evaluating design information, reviewing drawings and specifications.
- Reviewing and confirming the Construction Methodology Work Plans, risk assessments and excavation permits to an approved standard prior to works activities commencing.
- Identifying any opportunities to help develop the PDT’s delivery experience, through coaching and mentoring of the on-site teams.
- Helping to develop the Constructors & PDT’s approach to proactive Health and Safety.
- Issue daily shift reports in a timely manner on site progress and recording all safety, quality, environmental, staffing, access and program issues that arise.
- Interact with clients and other stakeholders to ensure that objectives are being met.
- Build and maintains networks with peer project teams and other disciplines.
- Work rotated shift patterns Days, Nights & Weekend.

Technical Competencies Required:
- Experienced construction manager in the rail sector i.e., Stations, Track, Bridges, Overhead Catenary Systems, Signalling and Communications.
- Solid understanding of construction methodology, innovative methods of delivery, technology, planning, delivery, site logistics.
- Commercial and basic understanding of construction contract law and an understanding of multiple contract types.
- Good oral, written communication, and presentation skills
- Stays up to date with key industry/professional trends through networking and Continued Professional Development (CPD) and ability to update colleagues & clients on industry trends.
- Proficient in office technology, software, and applications.
- Well-developed decision-making skills
- The individual will take ownership to identify, solve and overcome challenges, whilst keeping other abreast of developments
- This individual is expected to deliver results, striving to exceeds the clients’ expectations.
