POSITION SUMMARYThe Electrical Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for the successful acquisition, tendering, and running of various projects, with a strong focus on safety for both personnel and operations. The Electrical Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for ensuring that the project is completed safely, on schedule and in compliance with the contract and job cost estimates.Essential Responsibilities & Duties include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. - Ensures daily logs, test reports, inspection reports and permits are maintained
- Reports and documents issues to potential claims
- Ensures reporting and maintenance of all safety-related and quality management documentation
- Coordinates support functions including project start-up with internal and external teams
- Manages risk exposures on the project
- Manages and monitors the critical path on the master schedule
- Ensures Project Coordinators manage and monitor all electrical aspects of the schedule
- Conducts daily meetings with the Project Coordinator(s), Superintendent, Safety, and additional site staff to ensure coordination of the project
- Reviewing submittals, RFI’s, Electrical/building code, work plans/PHD’s
- Developing RFQ’s and scopes of work
- Reviews change orders and schedules them into the project schedule
- Holds electrical subcontractors accountable for fulfilling their obligations to the client and the Company
Estimating Management
- Develops, maintains, updates, distributes and manages electrical estimates
- Prepares electrical estimates, including, labour hours, material costs, tender forms, tool & equipment lists, schedules, and compiles bid packages for subcontractors
- Attends pre-bid meetings, estimate packages, and produces proposal schedules
- Interprets project drawings and specifications, analyzes drawings, specifications, proposals and other documentation
- Responsible for quantity take-offs from project drawings and specifications
- Reviews construction strategy and approach with Estimators and Business Development personnel during the bidding and proposal process
- Analyzes electrical sub-trade quotations, liaison with electrical subcontractors for clarification of issues, while ensuring electrical subcontractors are clear about the scope of their subcontracted work
- Tenders closings (e.g. reviews documents, compiles proposal information, participates in closing meetings)
- Assists with Buyout / Procurement of materials, equipment and subcontracts
- Participates in turnover meetings with Project Management on successful bids
Budget/ Schedule/ Cost Control
- Decides how to handle client change orders, including when to request a change order and how to price the change order
- Costs out the potential scope of work changes, bid to construction reviews and additional costs claim situations
- Ensures the project schedule is developed and maintained
- Monitors the financial status of assigned projects by reviewing management reports, talking with the Project Manager and inspecting the project site
Construction Means and Methods
- Conducts daily inspections of the project to ensure electrical work is being done appropriately
- Serves as a liaison with local inspectors
- Establishes and executes a mark-up meeting with the local building trades
- Works in conjunction with Alberici labour relations, subcontractors, and superintendents on the establishment of assignments
Management Responsibilities
- Manages and directs Assistant Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Estimators and non supervisory administrative employees
- Hires, trains, coaches, disciplines and develops employees
- Establishes and maintains positive, effective working relationship within internal and external contacts
- Determines course of action to achieve departmental and organizational goals
- Completes performance communications and establishes clear expectations of performance for direct reports
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Practices good communication skills
- Reads, analyzes and interprets documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Writes routine reports and correspondence
- Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions
- Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and concrete variables
Education and ExperiencePost-secondary degree/diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field plus 8-15 years of construction-related experience, including a combination of field and estimating experience.Managerial experience is considered an asset.Broad range of past experience working in multiple different contract model environments including but not limited to design-bid-build, progressive design-build and other integrated forms of agreement.
