The employee must use discretion and independent judgment in performing these job duties making determinations involving Chapter 64E-5, Florida Administrative Code. Duties include:Assist in the calibration, repair, and distribution of radiation detection equipment to various counties throughout the state of Florida.Calibrate and operate pressurized ion chambers and environmental monitors.Perform radiological surveys, as assigned, at the state environmental radiation laboratory in Orlando.Assist in the biannual inventory of radioactive material and leak testing, the annual equipment inventory, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.Conduct preventative maintenance and repair, as possible, of the physical plant for the environmental laboratory complex. Includes but is not limited to routine checks of building security systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, air compressor and fire alarm.Collects radon samples, soil and water samples, and performs soil characterizations in areas reclaimed or to be mined.In consult with Bartow based environmental consultant, compiles and reviews all field and laboratory results and prepares the annual pre and post phosphate mining report.
