With over a century of experience, and the ability to offer diverse, comprehensive services, Aecon is a preferred contractor for our clients.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Estimator Co-op will have the opportunity to support the Industrial team in their process of offering proposals and working with the estimating team. This is a 4, 8, or 12 month internship starting in September 2023. The co-op student will have the following duties in this role:

  • Being mentored by Senior and Chief Estimators in bidding projects including construction approach
  • Pursuing various projects including a combination of private client proposals, design-build and bid-build projects ranging from mining processing plants, industrial plants, to water & wastewater treatment
  • Working with the estimating team on proposal preparation including:
  • Quantity takeoff and updating estimate software with quantities
  • Database analysis
  • Subcontractor/Vendor solicitation
  • Subcontractor/Vendor Quote comparisons & analysis
  • Entering quotes into estimate software
  • Assisting with project execution
  • Assisting in design build process and working with design teams
  • Preparing portions of estimates utilizing Hard Dollar Estimating software
  • Preparing portions of schedules utilizing Primavera P6 software
  • Preparation of handover documents to site team for successful bids

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a university or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
  • Attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills and accuracy.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Service orientation and ability to work effectively with a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Database and P6 knowledge an asset.
