Job description: An Estimator is defined within Paul Davis as someone who owns all accountabilities associated with a project, including setting up the initial visit; scoping the work to be performed; writing an estimate; preparing bids, making revisions as required; having it approved by the client; and getting authorization to put the job into production.Paul Davis Restoration, Inc. is a national franchise organization that provides property damage emergency services, restoration, and reconstruction services for residential and commercial properties due to water, fire, mold, storm, and other disasters. - Creates a detailed scope of work by visiting work sites and collecting all pertinent info.
- Collecting relevant pictures and information to support and defend the estimate.
- Create floor plans as required with specific details including all measurement points, door/window openings, etc.
- Creates accurate and profitable estimates relating to mitigation, repairs, demo, environmental, and content.
- Requests 3-D imagery through platforms such as Matterport, Beacon, or Docu-sketch as required.
- Reviews specific datasets for estimating purposes and requests additions where required.
- Engage subcontractors to identify scope and pricing as needed.
- Work through the estimate review process, defending the estimate reviews and scrubs where required.
- Create a production package for all sold work.
- Estimate revisions, supplements, customer credits & cashouts.
- Estimate any private or upgrade requests.
- Identify price gaps on materials and labour.
- Collect all information required for fast estimate approval.
- Address own re-inspections/audits on files.
- Estimate most losses using 3rd party estimating software, Xactimate, and Symbility (as required).
- Ensure each project achieves a minimum gross profit margin as determined by company standards.
- Communicate and document any change orders and insurance supplements.
- Build and maintain business relationships with insurance adjusters, brokers, and TPA’s.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSTo be able to stay motivated and successful in the Estimator role, your professional profile must include:
- Being self-motivated, self-directed, and having the inner drive to deliver successful results.
- Having extensive experience in Canadian construction and the Ontario Building Code.
- Having significant experience in writing floor plans, scope documents, and estimates for construction jobs.
- Being up to speed with current technology and embracing a willingness to learn new applications & tools that are included/introduced into the process at various times.
- Being organized and capable of building schedules that encompass numerous jobs that will run concurrently.
- Being a strong, diplomatic communicator – maintaining confidentiality while intent on keeping all stakeholders informed on each project’s progress.
- Love working with the public, visiting people’s homes, interacting with homeowners, and scoping private/commercial buildings.
- Loving the pressure of urgency and the challenges associated with delivering high-end performance.
- Being able to maintain composure in stressful situations.
