Live Nation Announces Plans for a New 50,000 Capacity Open-Air Music Venue in Toronto
Live Nation has announced plans to build a new open-air music venue near Toronto’s Downsview Park with a capacity of 50,000. The new Rogers Stadium, set to open in June 2025, will be located on the former grounds of Downsview Airport.
According to Live Nation Canada executive Erik Hoffman, the decision to build the new venue was a response to the increasing number of stadium-level artists touring today. The new Rogers Stadium will provide a premium music festival experience for concert-goers, distinguishing itself from the current Downsview Park venue that has a capacity of 40,000 but lacks in audience experience.
The launch of Rogers Stadium is expected to bring in more top-level tours to the Toronto market, solidifying the city’s reputation as a must-play destination for world-class artists. Live Nation Ontario has already teased exciting announcements for the upcoming venue on their Twitter account.
While the expected cost of the project has not been disclosed, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is optimistic about the impact the new stadium will have on the province’s arts, culture, and tourism sectors. He believes that the seasonal operation of Rogers Stadium will attract visitors from around the world and create thousands of jobs in the region.
The construction of the new stadium is part of a larger project to redevelop the 150-hectare former Downsview Airport lands. Northcrest Developments, the purchaser of the property, plans to transform it into a collection of neighborhoods over the next 30 years.
With the announcement of Rogers Stadium, music fans can look forward to a world-class concert experience in Toronto’s newest outdoor venue. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the Canadian music scene.
