Job description: Do you like to Paint? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!The Building Maintainer (Painter) performs a range of painting work associated with building maintenance and construction in an internal and external shop to fulfill customer requirements in a timely and accurate manner.What will you be doing!

  • Prepare surfaces for refinishing including removing old finishes, filling surfaces and joints and cleaning the surface using liquid solvent, brushes, and steel wool.
  • Prepare paint or other finishing compounds, protective coatings to obtain proper colour of consistency, and to apply such compounds to floors, ceilings, walls, doors, fixtures, equipment, or vehicles using the appropriate application/equipment.
  • Install other types of coverings on walls and ceilings such as sheet or roll goods, not including wood panelling tile or materials such as Arborite.
  • Perform sanding or cleaning between coat using materials such as sandpaper, pumice rottenstone or oil.
  • Finish or refinish furniture.
  • Set up scaffolding, ladders, running boards, etc. commonly used in interior or exterior painting. (To post signs or take whatever other precautions necessary to ensure the safety of himself and others in the area with respect to proper ventilation, protection of wet surfaces, persons, and property)
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools, and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and AECL regulations to provide a safe and efficient working environment. Attend monthly safety meetings and immediately report any safety concerns and/or infractions. Apply CNL’s Event Free Tools procedure throughout the execution of assigned work and model this behaviour and knowledge to others.
  • Assist in the training, coaching, and mentoring of trainees in safe workshop practices and procedures including work planning, assisting and development of skills by demonstrating techniques, describing suitable methods. Monitor, assess and correct work performance, discuss problems and improvements and report progress to supervisor and identify further training needs.

What we are looking for :Experience:

  • Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety hazards associated with paints and finishes such as ventilation required and toxicity of vapours.
  • Demonstrated use and endorsement of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines in order to ensure proper co-ordination and prioritization of work.
  • Must be familiar with composition and working characteristics and mixing techniques of various types of paint, varnish, lacquer plastics, epoxies, gels and other protective coatings and their methods of application.
  • Must be able to distinguish colours and to match samples.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of cleaning processes for application equipment.
  • Knowledge with spray attachments and compressor mechanisms and be able to make minor repairs and adjustments.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work on planks and scaffolds.

Education:Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Painter.Security Clearance Requirements:Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.Why CNL?
