We are looking for painters to respond to requests for preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining all surfaces including wood, plaster, drywall, concrete, brick, etc.Roles and ResponsibilitiesReporting to Manager, Facilities Maintenance, below are some key accountabilities:
- The Painter mixes colors, orders supplies and necessary tools and maintains records. The Painter also tapes, sands, finishes drywall material and finishes or refinishes new or old wood furniture, using recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade.
- Apply coatings by brush, roller and spray to surfaces of wood, metal, brick, concrete, plaster, stucco and stone for decorative and protective purposes. Work will be maintaining both interior and exterior surfaces.
- Apply wall coverings to surfaces.
- Set up scaffolding.
- Perform surface preparation on new and existing surfaces.
- Calculate areas and relate these calculations to required materials. Research products and associated costs, determine requirements and place orders.
- Be competent and proficient in the safe use of hand tools, power equipment and precision-built machinery.
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with safety, quality, environmental and production standards required by industry.
- Ensures that proper health and safety documents are obtained for all hazardous goods purchased.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- The Painter must possess specialized knowledge of the painting trade.
- 5 years of painting experience, and experience using brushes, rollers, and spraying equipment.
- Class “5” Alberta driver’s license.
- Must be comfortable working from heights and have strong manual dexterity.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Demonstrated track record of effective problem solving
- Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
- Strong team player
Special Requirements
- Work may be interior or exterior. The Painter works from ladders and scaffolding and must be able to stand for long periods of time, often doing work with arms raised over head.
- Required to be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working with hazardous materials such as paint thinners and removers.
- Able to use motorized lifts that are used often for high to reach areas.
- Physically fit and capable of working in physically demanding work including confined spaces, high temperatures, and loud noises.
- Due to the nature of the job, this position may be required to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
- In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, permanent, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
- This position pays between $46,663.50 and $48,984 per year working 37.5 hours per week on a standard schedule.
- The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
- A compressed work schedule to allow for an additional day off every 2 weeks will be considered after completing the probation period.
- This position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends as needed.
