As a Project Manager you will lead and oversee critical engineering projects within our facilities for . Your role involves balancing technical expertise, project management, and innovation. Reporting to the Manager, Capital Projects and collaborating with various teams, you will oversee and execute a variety of projects at our Innovation Centre (CEIC) and Pilot Plant (CEPP). You will be required to support the Execution phase of projects including but not limited to detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning cycle for projects of varying sizes from Major Capital ($1M – 5M) to smaller maintenance / modification projects (<$1M).This role is required to be primarily onsite in Squamish, BC.Health, Safety and Environment
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
- Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
- Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
- Understand Process Safety Management principles including Process Hazard Analysis such as HAZOP, HAZID or What-If scenarios.
TechnicalProject Planning and Execution: Interact with internal and external engineering teams to develop Feasibility Studies, Conceptual, Preliminary and Detailed Design Packages for Capital Project execution at the CE’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) Plant.
- Interact with internal clients (Operations and Technology Development Departments) on technical aspects related to CE’s technologies, such as Capex / Opex data, plant area requirements, utilities, quantities and specifications, equipment selection criteria, etc.
- Develop Scope, Schedule and Cost estimates for OPS or RES Projects.
- Delivery Project Execution Plans for OPS or RES Projects including but not limited to: FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement and Commissioning for handover to internal OPS or RES owner(s).
- Facilitate the Management of Change (MOC) procedure and guidelines, including overseeing the change request approval process.
Technical Oversight: Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, and designers to drive DAC process development, process improvement, or technology innovation.
- Completing and reviewing engineering deliverables such as Basis of Design, Technical Specifications, Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic sizing calculations, Line lists, Equipment Specs/Datasheets, etc.
- Participating or leading in 3D model reviews, design reviews (internal and external), HAZIDs/HAZOPs, Peer Reviews and weekly/monthly project progress meeting.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks, assess their impact, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Build, maintain, and manage schedule contingency plans to allow maximum flexibility within the program, understanding all scheduling constraints and each critical path of program execution.
Budget Control: Monitor project budgets, track expenses, and optimize resource allocation.
- Collaborate and provide technical expertise to Purchasing department to develop Construction Scopes of Work and RFP’s.
- Develop and provide cost esitmates approval of financial expenditure for project budget approval.
- Review and negotiate when needed on bids, evaluating and selecting Contractors’ based on Proposals.
Stakeholder Communication: Regularly update stakeholders on project progress, milestones, and any deviations from the plan.
- Interface with the in-house Operations, Engineering, and Technology Development Department teams, as well as external engineering partners and clients.
- Be a point of contact and SME for internal and external engineering teams, with the ability to quickly resolve issues.
- Collaborate with productions engineers at CEIC to ensure required data is collected.
- Lead Project Coordination between Contractors and Engineers (internal or external) during Construction phase.
- Weekly and monthly reporting responsibilities. Including performance reports on project progress such as: updates status, schedule, budget, risks/issues and.
Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Application of Codes and Standards: ASME, CSA, API to comply with WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC.
Innovation and Problem-Solving: Foster innovation, encourage new ideas, and address technical challenges.Documentation: Maintain accurate project records, technical documentation, and reports.
- Lead in developing Project Management documentation and procedures.
- Ensure all documentation is properly filed in Sharepoint following CE guidelines.
Mentoring: Support, train and mentor more junior engineers.Education and ExperienceEducation:
- Bachelors in Engineering Degree with in discipline in Chemical, Process, Mechanical or related.
- P.Eng registered in BC or eligible to register as a P.Eng in BC.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in process engineering, project engineering, chemical plant projects, or chemical plant operation.
- 4+ years of Project Management in an industrial environment
- Expertise in preparing cost estimates, planning, scheduling, and construction of industrial plants or unit operations starting from front end engineering design (FEED) and progressing through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
- Competent with Project delivery and turnover of Mechanically Complete assets to end users from Construction, through Commissioning and support Operations during System Start-up.
- Experience with the FEP processes and their deliverables, AACE Cost Estimation, CII guidelines and best practices.
- Experience producing, reviewing or contributing to typical process engineering deliverables (Process Models, Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs, Process control philosophy, Equipment Datasheets, etc.).
- Experience in preparation and issue of RFIs/RFQs, as well as in reviewing vendor’s documents, drawings, datasheets, specification, and calculations.
- Experience in dealing with chemical processes, understanding of raw material consumption and utility usage, as well as variable, fixed and levelized costs.
- Experience in HAZID, HAZOP and other risk analysis and assessment tools is desired.
- Ability to stamp/authenticate engineering documents.
- Familiarity with Primavera or MS Projects.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
- Familiarity with CO2 capture technologies.
