Job description: WORK ILLUSTRATION:Reporting to the General Manager, Capital Construction & Grid Maintenance Programs, the Senior Manager, Capital Projects is responsible for the oversight and strategic management for a portfolio of capital construction and grid maintenance projects as part of the annual capital construction program including: safety management, people management, performance management, adherence to standards and quality, budget and schedule attainment, and resourcing. In addition, the incumbent continuously improves systems and processes, working with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate safety/environment, brand and reputation risks.The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees and manages the development of strategy, forecasts, plans, executes and reports for a portfolio of capital constructions projects for both customer and externally initiated projects
  • Leads a team to drive departmental activities to comply with required environment, health and safety (EHS) legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and practices
  • Provides coaching and feedback to motivate and engage employee outcomes in the attainment of organizational goals; acts to address gaps in performance which may impact outcomes. Provides varied growth opportunities and supports specific rotations for all employees
  • Manages annual budget, plans, scorecards and measures consistent with corporate, divisional and departmental goals.
  • Oversees and manages the relationships, attainment and performance for all elements of a portfolio of capital construction programs.
  • Provides oversight of the management systems, process and procedures to optimize safety, reliability, costs and outcomes in accordance with legal and regulatory obligations under various statutes and codes
  • Manages the day-to-day relationships with external contractor vendors to monitor the capital projects construction program completion
  • Oversees the resolution of issues with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate and address risks associated with project/program attainment or organizational brand and reputation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred)
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario
  • At least ten (10) years of experience focused in electricity utility operations, prior experience in capital construction projects strongly preferred
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive people leadership experience, senior leadership experience at Toronto Hydro strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing partnerships with internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong history of performance and demonstration of corporate competencies
  • Masters level degree – Business Administration or Engineering (preferred)
  • Knowledge of electrical and civil design and construction
  • Strong knowledge of the utilities sector
  • Strong Influence and negotiation skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management and engagement skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
