Still awaiting announcement of opening date for Eglinton Crosstown LRT

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT project in Toronto has been facing significant delays and challenges, with no firm opening date in sight even a year after it was expected. The testing and commissioning phase is ongoing to ensure the line works safely and reliably for customers. Construction on the 19-kilometre rail line, which began over 12 years ago, is 98% complete, but issues with software defects in the signalling and train control system are still being rectified by the consortium building the project.

Despite major construction being completed, there are outstanding issues that need to be resolved before an opening date can be declared. Metrolinx has committed to announcing an opening date three months in advance of the first services running. The project consortium, Crosslinx Transit Solutions, along with subcontractors and Alstom, are responsible for addressing the remaining challenges.

Overall, the project’s progress is being closely monitored, and updates will be shared with the public once key milestones are met. It’s evident that delivering a complex transit project like the Eglinton Crosstown LRT requires thorough testing and commissioning to ensure its safety and reliability for commuters. Stay tuned for further developments on this major infrastructure project in Toronto.
