South Fraser Station Partners has been selected by the Government of British Columbia to spearhead the design and construction of eight new stations for the Surrey Langley Skytrain project. The team, which includes Aecon Constructors, Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc., Pomerleau BC Inc., and AECOM Canada Ltd., is set to work on the 16-kilometre extension of the Expo Line from King George Station to Langley City Centre. This project marks the first rapid-transit expansion south of the Fraser River in three decades.
Early works such as pre-construction site surveys, geotechnical drilling, and station design will commence as contract negotiations with South Fraser Station Partners get underway. In addition to these preparations, efforts are already in progress along the Fraser Highway corridor to relocate powerlines and gear up for major construction slated to begin this year.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain project is divided into three separate contracts, with SkyLink Guideway Partners taking on the elevated guideway and associated roadworks, utilities, and active transportation elements. While requests for proposals were issued in early 2023, the competitive selection process for the systems and trackwork contract is still ongoing.
This project is not only a significant infrastructure development for the area but also a testament to the commitment of the Government of British Columbia to provide efficient and reliable transportation options for its residents. With multiple stakeholders joining forces to bring this project to fruition, the future of transportation in Surrey and Langley looks promising.
