The closure of the LaSalle Causeway in Kingston since early April has been the result of an incident on March 30 where a part of the bridge was compromised during construction. Although no injuries were reported, the impact has been significant for causeway users and cruise operators, with no confirmed timeline for reopening.
PSPC anticipates that the channel for marine navigation will reopen within the month and is working with the City of Kingston to establish temporary access solutions for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians using a modular bridge. In parallel, preparations are being made for the preliminary design of a new replacement bridge.
Stay tuned for more updates on the specific timelines for marine access and the progress of the demolition and replacement projects. The safety and efficiency of transportation in Kingston are a top priority for all parties involved in this endeavor.
