The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) recently took significant action against Albion Building Consultant Inc. and its business associates for illegal building and selling practices. This comes after multiple prior convictions for similar offenses, leading to fines and the revocation of Albion’s license to operate in Ontario.
The HCRA executed a search warrant at Albion’s offices in February 2024, seizing extensive business records and issuing a freeze order to safeguard purchasers’ funds. Despite the legal repercussions, allegations arose that Albion continued to build homes unlawfully.
CEO and registrar Wendy Moir emphasized the importance of upholding industry integrity and public safety by holding companies like Albion accountable for their actions. The new charges against Albion and its associates stem from the construction of 40 new homes, marking the largest investigation in HCRA history.
Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and cautious of Albion falsely presenting itself as a licensed builder. It is crucial to verify the credentials of any builder before engaging their services to avoid potential risks associated with unauthorized construction.
The HCRA’s firm stance against illegal building practices serves as a reminder of the importance of adherence to regulations in the home construction industry. By raising awareness of unlawful activities and enforcing consequences, the HCRA aims to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the housing market.
