Pinchin is seeking a full-time Project Technologist to join our Hazardous Materials (HAZ), team including Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) and Building Science & Sustainability (BSS) services in our Sudbury office.In a hybrid role encompassing several Pinchin service lines the Project Technologist would touch on a variety of building systems, including structure, building envelope, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing systems, interior elements, and the correct function of their assembly. The Tech would complete investigations into indoor air quality including mould and assessments for designated substances including asbestos, lead and PCB sampling, all while reporting to the Project Manager.Pinchin provides hands-on and virtual training and is seeking an individual with experience in some of the above and below tasks with willingness to learn the variety of services offered as a HAZ Tech.A Day in the life of a Project Technologist at Pinchin:

  • Complete assessments for mould, indoor air quality (IAQ), industrial hygiene, designated substances, and other hazardous materials.
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific client concerns.
  • Perform inspections and evaluating building systems.
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke and fire and provide remediation solutions.
  • Collect mould and bacteria samples.
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors undertaking mould, asbestos and other hazardous materials remediation work to document that the work has been properly completed.
  • Collect and analyze Phase Contract Microscope (PCM) asbestos air samples.
  • Perform designated substances assessments, including hazardous building materials and identify and sample suspect asbestos, lead, and PCB-containing materials.
  • Conduct Building and Property Condition Assessments in accordance with the ASTM standards and best construction practices.
  • Capital planning Building Condition Assessments.
  • Review and complete assessments of existing buildings and structures (roof assemblies, exterior cladding assemblies, balcony assemblies, fenestrations and parking garage structures) to determine design and remedial work options.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.)
  • Aid to develop designs and specifications for abatement/restoration projects.
  • Carry out construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are achieved.
  • Prepare detailed reports to present HAZ, IEQ or BSS findings, data interpretation, recommendations and detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  • Financial involvement and aid in coordination of project.
  • Maintain QA/QC, health and safety protocols.
  • Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned.

What you bring to the Pinchin team:

  • College Diploma in Building Science, Architectural Technology / Science, Construction Technology or Civil Engineering Technology. Bachelor of Science or Applied Science is preferred.
  • Related post-secondary education an asset
  • Entry level to two years of experience
  • Any HAZ and/or IEQ and/or BSS experience an asset.
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance and familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc.) preferred.
  • Experience writing technical reports is preferred.
  • Experience with Building Condition Assessments in accordance with the “ASTM Designation: E 2018 – 15 Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process” will be considered an asset, but not required.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings is preferred.
  • Experience working with environmental monitoring equipment is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to follow detailed instructions is required.
  • Availability to work outside our core business hours, rotational weekends and travel is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
  • Ability to safely transport and carry 20-foot extension or folding ladder, hand tools and PPE is required.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance & personal vehicle required (work related travel expenses will be compensated)
  • Note that some clients require security clearances and/or drug and alcohol testing to gain access to certain job sites.
