After being closed for repairs due to ongoing leaks, Kitsilano Pool in Vancouver is set to reopen on August 7th, 2024. The pool, a popular summer destination in the Kitsilano neighborhood, was renovated in 2018 but had to be closed last year for health and safety reasons. Thanks to the efforts of city staff, Scott Construction, and engineer Jeff Stibbart, the pool is being repaired to extend its lifespan by approximately two years until plans for a new facility are developed.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his commitment to preserving this beloved asset, stating that Kits Pool holds cherished memories for many Vancouverites, from learning to swim to enjoying summer vacations. The city council has passed a motion to move forward with a modernized replacement for Kits Pool, exploring funding options such as a dedicated fund for donations and corporate sponsorships.
As one of the most iconic pools in Canada, Kits Pool is seen as a centerpiece of Vancouver. Despite the challenges faced in recent years, the city remains dedicated to ensuring that this community hub continues to thrive. Stay tuned for more updates as repairs are underway and plans for a new facility are developed.
