Classical cinematic narrative is transforming into a new culture of drama, gaming and fiction-based forms that merge traditional cinema, experimental literature, television, video, and the Internet. This seminar focuses on a range of contemporary film, video and digital artists who move across analogue and digital media forms to construct experimental narratives and to represent developing discourses of post-human existence and embodied imaginaries produced by media convergence. The course will present a range of contemporary theoretical approaches to frame analogue and digital narratives, including Peter Weibel’s “Future Cinema” and Katherine Hayles “How We Became Post-Human”. As well, key theoretical approaches to new multimedia narratives will be presented. The course involves weekly screenings and discussion of readings; assignments include a research paper and analytical essays.RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
  • Experience teaching at the post secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Required Education & Experience– Practical Nursing credential or BSN degree;
– Two years’ experience teaching adults, preferably at the post-secondary level;
– Work experience in gerontics;
– Extensive experience working with Older Adults;
– A combination of education and experience may be considered;
– Provincial Instructor diploma preferred;
– Experience with Indigenous pedagogies and culture;
– Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record);
– CPR Level HCP required.
