Additional support to this role is provided through the various branches of the HWP MO (e.g., radiation protection, finance, procurement, etc.)What will you be doing !Engineering Change Control – Process Improvements
- Interface with Operations Supervisors, Technicians, and representatives of the Maintenance team in their duties to determine the need for process improvements;
- Work with Configuration Management Specialists, assisting in change management administrative efforts to move design work into construction and commissioning;
- Designing and testing process upgrades and new process systems;
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
Engineering Project Management – Construction and Decommissioning
- Provide project management (including earned value management) to Waste Water Operations
Group projects; * Review detailed project plans (schedules, resource management, budgets);
- Prepare contract documents and technical scopes of work, coordinate tendering of contracts with Procurement and the Waste Water Operations team, assist in evaluation of tenders and selection of contractors, as well as coordinate award of contract with procurement.
- Review contractual documents and provide oversight of contracted services for the Waste Management Operations Group projects;
Process Performance Review and Reporting
- Interface with Operations Specialist to evaluate process performance. Plant performance data review is required to determine the efficiency and productivity of the treatment processes. Review of SCADA trends and interfacing with Operations Supervisors and Technicians is conducted on an ongoing basis to evaluate production efficiencies and determine if process improvements are required.
- Data reporting to internal and external stakeholders will be required on a routine basis. Assistance will be provided to the Operations Manager and Specialist in the creation of process performance and production reports.
- Review of SCADA data sets and ongoing metrics generated by the Operations team is required. This data is to be evaluated and summarized for reporting back to the Operations Supervisors, Specialists, and Manager
What we are looking for :Someone who has the ability/skills to:
- Strong analytical, business, and negotiation skills to manage adherence to contractual requirements;
- A working knowledge of radioactivity and nuclear waste management is considered an asset;
- Practical and regulatory knowledge and skills in the field of mechanical/process engineering and/or water treatment;
- Must be self-motivated and able to function independently;
- Ability to work in a multi-discipline, team environment demonstrated through exceptional interpersonal skills;
- Excellent computer skills, including document preparation and use of various tools for project planning and presentation such as spreadsheets and project management software.
Experience:
- 5 years of engineering experience and Member of a provincial professional engineering association (or eligible to be a member), or significant related experience in a field of specialization pertinent to the position.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully completing medium to large projects and administering contracts within the field of mechanical engineering, construction, and decommissioning.
- Specifically, possessing expertise in water treatment projects, particularly those involving low-level radioactive waste, is highly advantageous.
- Proven capability in managing and supporting project teams, offering valuable input to investigation and design teams, and contributing to the development and implementation of contracts associated with process construction, commissioning, and decommissioning projects.
- Desirable qualifications include registration of eligibility for membership in provincial engineering associations or equivalent professional bodies.
Industry Specific Knowledge:
- Required qualifications include familiarity with engineering procedures, organizational protocols, and quality assurance processes. Additionally, a solid grasp of compliance program prerequisites, such as radiation protection, and proficiency in procurement practices are essential.
- Candidates must also possess expertise in project management principles encompassing scope, schedule, time, quality, and risk management, along with practical experience in engineering activity oversight.
Education:A Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a reputable university, or equivalent certification in a relevant specialization such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Environmental engineering, or equivalent with a minimum of five years of directly applicable experience, is required.Security clearance eligibility required:Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.Working Conditions :
- This position requires a continued presence at both Port Hope and Port Granby Waste Water Treatment Plants and Long Term Waste Management Facilities. Supervision work occurs continually and in person where active construction, fabrication and decommissioning tasks are completed by contractors.
- The employee will be designated a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) and work occurs year round both indoors and outdoors around heavy equipment and large industrial processes. Various levels of Personal Protective Equipment are required to be worn depending of the location and task.
