  • Analyze documents, specifications, proposals, addendums in preparation for pricing.
  • Perform quantity take-off from construction drawings.
  • Obtain pricing from suppliers and incorporate into estimate.
  • Formulate all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts.
  • Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
  • Assist with Prequalification submissions, RFQ’s and RFI’s as required.
  • Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Review project site prior to price preparation, as required.
  • Perform Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and that associated learning and communication takes place.
  • Collect data and reports on established business Key Performance Indicators.
  • Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed estimates.
  • Provide estimating support to field staff, as required.
  • Drive Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
  • Incorporate / comply with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.

What You’ll Bring To The Team:

What You Bring To The Team

  • Minimum 5 years of large capital project estimating experience within the industrial or nuclear construction industries
  • Construction Engineering Technologist or Trade Certification or Gold Seal Certificate (Estimating) or equivalent experience
  • In eight Estimate software experience is preferred and knowledge of estimating, and take off programs are beneficial (i.e. Excel, OST Pro, Bluebeam, etc.)

  • Provide guidance to project controls and operations/project management teams to recognize emerging issues, leverage lessons learned and drive toolset/process adoption, ensure accuracy of key project metrics in a timely manner, and adherence to corporate guidelines and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Operations and Finance personnel to develop methodologies that will enhance accuracy of project level financial forecasting.
  • Attend and contribute to Handover and Kick-Off meetings.
  • Provide project controls input on the commercial, administrative and reporting requirements during project setup.
  • Oversee scheduling functions to ensure projects meet standards and target completion dates.
  • Conduct detailed review and analysis of project performance control and reporting to understand and articulate key metrics and trends.
  • Ensure management is provided with timeline review and progress of all projects and activity including completion of monthly project status report and forecasting reporting and endorse suggested corrective actions to maintain the project within planned cost and schedule.
  • Oversee and support project change management, including subcontractor claims, change requests, claims and dispute resolution.
  • Identify commercial risks and develops mitigation measures to ensure project control deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities of Project Controls improvement for management review and consideration
  • Develop, update and manage Risk Mitigation Plan
  • Create and maintain a diverse culture.
  • Guide and mentor direct reports.
  • Key partner to Estimators, Project Managers, Operations teams and Senior Leadership.
  • Communicates effectively with external clients, partners, vendors and subcontractors as required.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge of the “Earned Value Management” principles.
  • Ability to produce, read and modify schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
  • Leadership and team building skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead a project controls team.
  • Proven strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.

  • Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals, addendums in preparation for pricing.
  • Assists with RFP’s and General Contract tender submissions.
  • Supports team in preparing quantity take-offs from construction drawings where applicable.
  • Research and/or obtains pricing from Suppliers and Subcontractors that can be incorporated into project estimates.
  • Assists with prequalification submissions, RFQ’s and RFI’s as required.
  • Aids in estimate creation for bid submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
  • Attends site visits in advance of estimate creation
  • Ensures the distribution of documentation appropriately upon award.
  • Collects data for reports on established business key performance Indicators.

Required Knowledge and Experience
