Job description: Forbes Bros Ltd. is currently seeking a qualified Estimator (full-time, permanent) to join our team in Eastern Canada! This is a hybrid opportunity that requires up to 75% travel to various project sites in Ontario.The Estimator will be responsible for providing the knowledge and skills required to prepare detailed cost estimates for bids, change orders, and/or projects. The Estimator will also be responsible for creating competitive cost estimates based on a detailed review of scope documentation. Key Responsibilities:

- Obtains technical guidance required to support Project technical issues. Guides field teams as required
- Maintain high quality, detailed estimate preparations for submission of the bid / project pricing
- Maintain quality of information in estimating database
- Review and compare subcontractor/suppliers quotes as compared to others
- Analyze client Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to determine contractual and technical requirements
- Review bid documentation / drawings to determine project scope requirements and to confirm technical requirements for estimate preparation
- Perform material take off of engineered drawings for procurement purposes as needed
- Support Senior Estimator with cost estimate preparation, subcontractor management, and supplier/vendor management
- Monitor and track costing of ongoing projects including comparison of labour and equipment rates within estimate database
- Estimate market value of products and services
- Liaise and consult with engineers and subcontractors to prepare adjustments to cost estimates
- Continue review and improvement of Forbes Bros Ltd. (FBL) estimating processes (i.e., stream line actual cost data evaluation and cost estimate database standardization)
- Meet estimating goals set for the year
- Prepare estimates of costs of materials, labour, and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications
- Support Senior Estimator with preparation of detailed cost estimates
- Manage subcontractor process to ensure that quotes are levelled properly
- Accurate records of cost estimates and pricing pay sheets in database are archived
- Maintain accurate labour, equipment and material rates in database
- Materials procured for the project meet specifications
- Material delivery is to schedule
- Additional related duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Construction Management or related field with a minimum of 5 years work experience in construction industry
- Must have cost estimating and construction experience
- Experience working with Hard Dollar
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Visio, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects/activities in a dynamic fast pace environment
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills, attention to detail, with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong verbal communications and negotiation skills
- Highly effective at building and managing client/vendors relationships
- Flexible, willing to work long hours if required
- A self-motivated individual that requires minimum supervision and with goal and team oriented attitude
- Able and willing to travel to and work in remote project locations, embedded in operational work groups
- Have and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable give (5) year drivers abstract
