Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Superintendent is accountable for overseeing the ongoing operations, ensuring efficient and effective management of equipment and labor and compliance with all regulations. The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission and the vision and values of the Fort McKay Group of companies LP. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment and/or pre-access testing.Key Focuses:

  • Report to Project Manager on a daily basis in regards of safety, direct and indirect cost, production and opportunities.
  • Drive accountability for cost and production targets and ensuring that the support provided meets the clients operational objectives by reviewing labour requirements, schedules, and reports on a regular basis.
  • Organize and lead efforts to investigate, identify, and implement solutions related to process issues, customer quality issues, process improvements, productivity issues, and any other variances within the scope of work or position.
  • Be responsible for all field personal. Oversee all Foreman, Team Leads, and any contractors. Provide daily instruction to General Foremen and Team Leads as needed.
  • Read & interpret EWP’s to assist estimating department, assist planners, plan resources, submit work plans to manager for approvals and follow the work plan.
  • Provide a month look ahead to the Project Manager on a weekly basis ensuring it meet the overall project plan and addressing deviating if needed through the internal change order process.
  • Work with procurement team to ensure all project materials are ordered with enough lead time to minimize supply chain impact.
  • Work with project coordinators on a daily basis to ensure cost, production and revenue tracking is
  • consistent with the project bid design basis
  • Submit staffing requisitions as needed and be part of the interview process.
  • Assist in developing the project schedule and own the schedule by driving accountability.
  • Drive FMG’s safety culture and ensure leading indicator targets are met. Ensure all safety standards, safe operating procedures and all applicable laws are adhered to, and provide guidance and ownership for all safety investigation.
  • Assist in developing the ITP and ensure all QCs metric are met during construction.
  • Work with Maintenance to have equipment serviced, repaired, and maintained while planning overall resources requirements to meet project schedule. Plan/sequence all craft discipline work in area of responsibility.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • 10 years’ experience in mining operations and supervisory/leadership is required
  • Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
  • Please submit a copy of a three (3) year driving record with application
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Experience in SAP and/or Ceridian Dayforce is considered an asset.
  • CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
  • Ground Disturbance ticket is required
  • Ability to speak, write and read English is required
  • Strong ability to analyze problems, identify multiple solutions, consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations.
  • Practical understanding of and well-developed skills in open pit mine operations

  • Coordinate with HSE department and ensure that safety statistics are presented to the client as per the contract.
  • Work as a team on JSA as required.
  • Understand drawings and locate design problems prior to the beginning of a project, and during the course of the project up to completion.
  • Submit RFIs (or equivalent) to client upon finding or being notified of a design problem
  • Complete field designs within 24 hours
  • Assist in Incident / Environmental investigations with the Superintendent, and other Team members as required.
  • Calculate the margin on unit rate projects. Review with the project manager and superintendent
  • Work with Superintendent to develop action plans to correct low production or low margin
  • Conduct regular on and off-site project reviews with safety, QA and Operational (KPI) performance.
  • Supervise QC subcontractors as needed.
  • Complete turnover documents after the completion date of the project

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
  • Completion of post-secondary education in Mining or Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
  • 3 year clean Drivers Abstract is required
  • Any construction industry experience located on a project site is preferred, with relevant experience in a production environment relating to Mining, Civil Construction, and Heavy Equipment Operation.
  • Excellent knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Experience in AutoCAD is considered an asset.
  • CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
  • Effective communicator and displays strong and professional interpersonal skills, including excellent oral, written communication, and listening skills. Speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, writes clearly and informatively. Strong coordination skills, ability to identify constraints.
  • Problem solving skills: problems are solved within general policies and rules under general/limited guidance. This requires the incumbent to have specialized knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
