Job description: Job Description:Wood is actively recruiting for Offshore Industrial Painters, who will be responsible for operating painting and sandblasting equipment, in the application of protective coatings, PFP and paints on offshore, fabricated structural steel material and piping. The ideal candidate will have previous, relevant work experience on offshore Oil & gas platforms, who will meet the Training/Certification criteria. Candidates must possess a Journeyperson Certification OR provide evidence of a minimum of 3,900 hours of experience directly related to the trade OR a valid Journeyperson Certificate issued by another Canadian province or Territory with Interprovincial Red Seal Certification.A fall arrest ticket is required if working at heights.Responsibilities:

  • Operation of paint and sandblasts heavy equipment, using spray gun, breathing air. pressure washers and sandblasting equipment: Cleanse grease, dirt, dried concrete, old paint, organic growth, and rust from equipment, using solvent, water, rags, brushes, pneumatic wire brush, and chipping hammer.
  • Cleanse and prepares surface for painting, using air-powered sandblasting equipment and power tools.
  • Stencils lettering and other identifying information on vehicles according to specification; Selects paint according to company color scheme and specifications.
  • Disassembles paint and sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes, and dry cloth.
  • Application of industrial coatings; Includes application of various coating systems, PFP, Belzona, glues, flooring materials, material handling, use of equipment such as blast pots and pressure washers, and use of various hand and power tools.
  • Review work packages and understand scope requirements for specific tasks and follow all work procedures and safety guidelines
  • Listen and communicate effectively and respectfully. Work as a part of a team, under the direction of a foreman and/or general foreman. Maintain motivation to work safely and productively
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, understanding and following specifications and drawings. Apply mathematics and geometry to solve problems
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adequately comprehend and communicate using the English Language

Qualifications:

  • Must have an understanding of all relevant standards, specifications, rules, regulations, etc.
  • Able to execute work and apply coatings in accordance with agreed upon guidance documents (i.e. work packs, work instructions, procedures), manufacturer’s recommendations and governing specifications
  • Knowledge of sand blasting and industrial painting techniques/equipment is required
  • Must have experience using mechanical/hand tools, abrasive wheels, low pressure washing, compressors (diesel and electric), etc
  • Must have experience working with high pressure blasting equipment on large objects/structures
  • Must be familiar with coating (i.e. phenolic, epoxy, glass-flake, etc.) products/systems
  • Preferably a Journeyperson Painter with offshore O&G / industrial work experience
  • Experience in the application of coatings in an offshore environment is preferred
  • Experience in the application of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) required.
  • Experience with Permit to Work (PTW) systems is highly desired.
  • Read and understand the WHMIS requirements for all paints, solvents, chemicals and other noxious substances

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent, heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs)
  • Frequent climbing, standing, stooping and/or bending,
  • Two-handed simultaneous operations, and good hand-eye coordination
  • May require frequent travel aboard helicopters and/or boats.
  • Must be able to see details at close range, follow instructions, and quickly & repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine.
  • May be required consistently to work 12-hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditions. May be required to work overtime on occasion
  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
  • Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test, as required by the customer
