The successful candidate will report to the Team Leader and contribute to the growth and facilitate the trajectory of the group. Remote or flexible work arrangements will also be considered.The Terrestrial Biologist will be expected to design and direct technical work; prepare disciplinary and coordinate multidisciplinary proposals; manage budgets and schedules; be responsible for report quality and technical training; and assist with strategic business development.   • Applied experience and skills in the identification of Ontario flora and fauna (vascular plants, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, insects, and/or fish), identification of Species at Risk and habitats, and delineation of habitat types.

Pinchin is seeking a Project Technologist to join our Hazardous Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality team in our Oshawa or Peterborough offices.Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Project Technologist will conduct effective worker exposure and workplace monitoring, safety inspections and audits. You will assist in developing various types of hygiene, health and safety documentation, prepare technical reports and liaise with clients to ensure their needs and goals are met. Pinchin staff in the Oshawa and Peterborough offices work remotely as part of a small team. We work at a number of residential, commercial and industrial client sites between Pickering, Trenton, and Haliburton.A Day in the Life of a Project Technologist at Pinchin:

  • Complete assessments for hazardous materials, designated substances, mould, indoor air quality (IAQ), and industrial hygiene
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific client concerns.
  • Perform inspections and evaluate building systems and materials.
  • Use various types of equipment to record measurements and collect various samples.
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke, and fire.
  • Assist clients following flood and loss emergencies to get buildings dried, cleaned, or remediated and operational.
  • Collect mould and bacteria samples.
  • Identify and sample suspect asbestos, lead, and PCB-containing materials.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting findings and providing recommendations to address IAQ and hazardous materials concerns.
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors undertaking mould, asbestos and other hazardous materials remediation work to document that the work has been properly completed.
  • Collect and analyze Phase Contract Microscope (PCM) asbestos air samples.
  • Collect bulk material samples for testing for asbestos, lead, and other hazardous materials.
  • Business development to existing clients
  • Maintain and enhance quality control within the group.

What you bring to the Pinchin team:

  • College diploma in Construction or Architectural Technology, or Bachelor of Science or Engineering or equivalent/related post-secondary experience
  • Entry level to five years of experience
  • Hazardous Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality experience
  • C.E.T. or related designations will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines
  • Familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc.)
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings.
  • Experience working with environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Experience working in nuclear facilities is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Availability to work outside our core business hours and rotational weekends
