Job description: Highlights of the jobWe are hiring a permanent Powerline Technician to join our EPCOR Electricity Distribution Ontario (EEDO) team position working out of Collingwood, ON.In the Powerline Technician role, you are accountable for performing skilled and hazardous electrical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution lines, transformers, and related equipment. This includes customer service related field tasks and 24-hour emergency response.The successful candidate will be required to live within 45 minutes of 43 Stewart Rd. Candidates outside of this area will be considered but required to relocate within 3 months of completing the 6 month probation period.
We are accepting applications both current EPCOR Employees and external applicants at this time.What you’d be responsible forThe Powerline Technician is accountable to the Supervisor, Hydro Operations, and operates within the context and prescribed limits established as established by both the Supervisor, Hydro Operations and the General Manager, EEDO. Key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing input to the Collingwood Hydro Operations plans and directions, and ensuring on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.
  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics including safety, environment and customer service.
  • Performing the construction of:
  • Overhead lines, setting, framing of poles (primary and secondary), stringing and energizing conductors.
  • Underground lines, installation of primary and secondary ducts and conductors, termination and energizing primary and secondary conductors.
  • Performing electric utility connections and disconnections concerning customer service activity as requested/required.
  • Trimming trees around energized electrical power lines.
  • Inspecting installation by others to ensure compliance with EPCOR’s Condition of Supply and Reg.22/04; sign-off as required.
  • Repairing street lighting and traffic control lighting.
  • Proficiently operating all underground equipment for locating.
  • Working in compliance with the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and all applicable legislation, regulations, and statutes.
  • Providing back-up support to other Departments, as assigned, that are in accordance with job responsibilities, and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

What’s required to be successfulThe successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Certified Powerline Technician in Ontario.
  • For other provinces, a Powerline Technician Certificate with Red Seal status is required.
