The Maintenance person will be responsible for performing general building and property maintenance. The successful applicant must have good communication skills, be service oriented, efficient at planning and organizing work, critical thinking, a team worker who is responsible and accountable for own job performance, and who is always willing to help and support their coworkers.
Job DutiesRespond to staff housing requests for maintenance in staff housing properties.
Perform regular property inspections of the staff housing properties, building exterior, and landscape.
Perform minor repairs on windows, doors, switches, desks, tables, plugs, equipment, appliances, sinks, toilets, blinds, electrical, plumbing etc.
Clean light fixtures and change light bulbs/tubes.
Carpentry skills and experience pertaining to metal and timber framing, drywall installation, finishing and experience in cabinet making/joinery would be an asset.
Maintain heating and air conditioning systems, and perform routine checks of boilers, pumps, fan units, control panels, thermostats etc.
Maintain outside grounds (remove snow, ice, and debris, spray and remove weeds, gardening, sweep, clean gutters & drains, water, mow, and maintain sprinkling systems).
Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
Moving, installing and dismantling furniture
Safely transport tools, material, self, and coworkers to staff housing properties as required.
Comply with Health and Safety and WHMIS requirements for Personal Protective Equipment.
Participate in the emergency on-call schedule.
Maintain inventory of tools and parts.
Routine removal of recycling and waste from properties.
Assist in seasonal onboarding and offboarding of employees into staff housing, as and if required.
Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.RequirementsValid BC Driving License and clean drivers abstract.
High school diploma/GED.
2 years of maintenance experience or trade background
Experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings.
Ability to perform small repairs (e.g. caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures, waterproofing and tiling).
Strong communication skills.
A self-motivated and proactive approach to work.
Owning a vehicle is preferred but not essential.Work ConditionsManual dexterity required to use various cleaning apparatus and supplies. .
Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 25 pounds.
Regular physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, crouching and kneeling.
Various indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Interact with management, colleagues and the public.
